Let the Countdown begin

Today I ordered my copy of Chemical City, the new Sam Roberts album. Right now the album is in the Amazon warehouse, waiting to be shipped to me in Minnesota. I can't wait!

Damn. You're eager. That doesn't come out for another whole month, does it?

I'll probably just wait and get it on iTunes the day it comes out.

By the way, there's a column in today's Buffalo News about the inevitability of the Bills leaving Buffalo. Maybe it's inevitable, but personally I just think that Ralph Wilson has lost his mind.

Canadian import version has an extra track. Plus I'm impatient.

If you think that's awesome, I just got an import of the new Danko Jones album for $12 at Record Theater.

As for the Bills leaving Buffalo, Ralph Wilson says that every 2 or 3 years to get money.

I think Wilson will own the team (also read as "live") another 1-2 years, and after that, I don't think the team will last another 5 in Buffalo. That puts the team somewhere else by 2012-13. Of course, maybe Tom Golisano will buy them too. Maybe he can just buy Erie County.

Although I still like the quality of NFL football, NFL economics and free agency frustrates me. The Packers, Steelers, Patriots, and (I hate to say it but...) the Cowboys know what they're doing; other than that, the league is run by a bunch of morons, Wilson included.

Two more comments:

--Dave pre-ordered the Sam Roberts CD, and his will be autographed by the band. Beat that!

--How can you say the Cowboys know what they're doing if they picked up Terrell Owens? Maybe they know how to win, but they have no SOULS.

I'd like to see an exhibition game between the Toronto Argonauts and the Buffalo Bills. They should be about even right now.

We've successfully ruined Ed's post about the album, but I agree that the Cowboys have no "soul"--Jerry Jones is ruthless and George Steinbrenner-esque, but he knows how to play the NFL's economic games.

The teams I named all have business plans, albeit very different business plans, that work in their markets and that have kept them as stable franchises for quite some time now. Kraft has put stability in New England. The Packers have, undoubtably, the best ownership situatioin in all of football. The Steelers have kept the team within the Rooney family, and they have found a way to limit their spending and still remain competitive. Jerry Jones, as ruthless as he is, has always found new in-roads to marketing and endorsement opportunities, which has helped keep his franchise stable.

None of the above owners have to do the Al Davis--"I'm going to keep moving my team back and forth until I'm happy"--or the Ralph Wilson--"I won't show you my books, but I need more government money"--routines.

These other teams, with their young, out-dated, or always-changing owners, don't have what it takes to run successful (measured in both wins and financial success) franchises.

Dude this is awesome, its a conversation within a post. I have some thoughts on Ralph and the Bills, but unfortunately prelims are calling. Lets just say I don't think he's such a kook. Ok, back to French nationalists. . .
