Monday: New Ulm

After Jeff and Fred unceremoniously blew out of my apartment like bats out of Hell at 6:36 AM, Megan and I followed in close pursuit at 6:48 as we headed to New Ulm, MN. New Ulm was a German utopian community founded in the 1800s by a group of German immigrants. Everything was in German, and the atmosphere of the town was a quaint cross between Europe, 1920's Architecture, and the old west. The high point was definitely Schell's Brewery, the second oldest family owned brewery in the country. All in all, a great day!

Bats of Hell was about right . . . and New Ulm took us five hours off schedule . . . BUT you have the pictures to prove that we missed out, and I have the pictures of Iowa cornfields to prove THAT.

Unfortunately, unlike Ed, I don't like to start all my travels at 1:30 pm. But in his defense, we only gave him about 2 days notice that we wanted to leave at 6:36 AM on Monday.

Moreover, Fred and I did miss out on getting ROOT BEER at the second oldest family owned brewery in the country. I'm sure it's been root beer sales keeping them in business all these years.

When Fred and I tried to get the fuck out of New Ulm (a very over-rated stop "right"... 2 hours... off the highway), we almost got into a car accident because there were several intersections that had no stop signs in any direction.

The brewery had more than root beer. You could have tried six varieties of beer in addition to the root beer. As for the schedule I keep. . . I do admit that I tend to be rather slow in the morning. However, every morning I slept in I only got up shortly after Freddie (who was wrapped in his sleeping bag with a dopey grin on his face speaking of sweet dreams of Tom Selleck :) ), and I was still ready to go most of those days before him. As to the Monday we went to New Ulm, it was obvious you just wanted to leave in the morning without telling anyone. You gave us two days notice you wanted to leave at 6:36, and I told you two days ahead of time that 6:36 was too early, and that 6:48 was a much more suitable time. As Megan can attest to, we pulled out of the garage at exactly 6:48am!
